Thickness Measuring

What is Thickness Measuring?

Thickness measuring is one of the most commonly used methods for inspecting and testing pipes, tanks, and similar components.
An ultrasonic signal is transmitted, and the echo returning is analyzed to determine the thickness of the material. It is frequently used in the oil, gas, and chemical industries.

In connection with condition assessments of operational facilities, ultrasonic testing is particularly utilized for thickness measuring, enabling the detection of wall thickness reductions caused by erosion (mechanical wear) or corrosion (chemical wear).
During condition monitoring, thickness measuring can also be used to detect structural changes that may occur in certain materials under the influence of high temperatures and, for example, hydrogen infiltration into the material.
