RILUMINATI 815, fluorescent indicator coating for early crack detection under UV light (365 nm)

RILUMINATI 815 is a fluorescent indicator coating for early, passive detection of fatigue cracks on steel components. The system is developed for long-term monitoring of critical areas where cracks may occur during operation, and where you want a simple visual check without knowing the crack location in advance.

How it works

RILUMINATI 815 is applied as a thin, uniform indicator layer. A black topcoat (RILUMINATI 816) is applied over the indicator layer for maximum contrast. When a crack later forms in the steel, the coating system will crack with the material, and the edges of the indicator layer are exposed. During inspection with UV light (365 nm), the crack appears as a strong yellow-green fluorescence, making it easy to identify by visual inspection or with a camera for remote monitoring.

Why choose RILUMINATI

  • Early crack indication under fatigue and dynamic loading

  • Long-term monitoring of critical zones on steel structures

  • High UV resistance, colour strength and gloss are retained over time

  • Suitable for large areas and hard-to-access locations

  • Option for automated crack detection via camera and remote monitoring during ongoing processes

  • Good adhesion to steel through a combination of elasticity and strength in the coating

Typical applications

RILUMINATI 815 is used to monitor areas where there is a risk of fatigue cracking, for example:

  • welds and heat-affected zones

  • machine parts and structures under cyclic loading

  • critical steel surfaces in process and production environments

Quick use guide (practical)

  1. Preparation: Remove rust, mill scale, paint, oil and grease for optimal adhesion.

  2. Apply 815: Apply thin and evenly (30 to 50 µm). Observe the drying time.

  3. Topcoat: Fully cover the indicator layer with the black topcoat for correct contrast.

  4. Inspection: After full cure, the area can be checked with 365 nm UV.

Aerosol tip: Spray onto a dry, degreased surface from approx. 20 cm distance using quick zig-zag movements. Keep the can upright to avoid an uneven spray pattern.

Note: This product contains 12 x 500 ml aerosol spray cans.
