RILUMINATI 816, black topcoat for maximum contrast in UV inspection (365 nm)

RILUMINATI 816 is the black topcoat used in the RILUMINATI system to cover the indicator layer and block its fluorescence for the highest possible contrast during UV inspection. It is designed for long-term monitoring of fatigue cracks on steel components, where a simple visual check and reliable contrast are required.

How it works

RILUMINATI 816 is applied thinly and evenly on top of the RILUMINATI 815 indicator layer. The topcoat creates a black, uniform surface and prevents the indicator layer from radiating to achieve maximum contrast. When a crack forms and the coating system tears open with the steel, the exposed crack edges of the indicator layer can be verified using UV light (365 nm).

Why choose RILUMINATI 816

  • Maximum contrast during UV inspection (365 nm)

  • Blocks background fluorescence for clear crack indication

  • Thin application with a maximum film thickness of 40 µm

  • Suitable for large areas and hard-to-access locations

  • Supports remote monitoring with camera during ongoing processes

  • Designed for steel surfaces in industrial crack monitoring

Typical applications

RILUMINATI 816 is used wherever the RILUMINATI system is applied, for example:

  • welds and heat-affected zones

  • components under cyclic loading

  • critical steel surfaces in process and production environments
